                                    Denali National Park and Preserve - Wonder Lake

This panorama showcases Denali in the early morning hours, as the peaks reflect in one of the many glacier-born bodies of water that dot the topography in Denali National Park and Preserve. These waterbodies scattered across the landscape are known as kettles. They are formed when a glacier recedes, or a mass of ice detaches from the main glacier, and becomes buried in the sediment, creating a depression that fills with water. Most of these depressions are referred to as kettle ponds, small in size and fairly shallow. However, one of the largest kettles in Denali is Wonder Lake; it is 280 feet at its maximum depth and nearly 3 miles long.
